Peter Fernandez, who voiced the American version of Speed Racer, died today at 83 years old after a long battle with lung cancer.
Born In New York City, Peter was drafted into the United States Army at age 18, late into World War II. After his discharge from the service in 1946, he became a prolific writer for radio and fiction, and eventually wrote his own children's book titled "Bedtime Stories from the Bible."
Although an accomplished actor, writer and director, most of us will lovingly remember him as "Speed Racer". Not only did he voice the star of the show, he also co-wrote many episodes and composed the theme song that brought many of us into the world of anime. A memorial service celebrating his life and many accomplishments is planned for September in Pamona, New York. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family for their loss.
