How could you say no to this face?

The school is swarming with zombies, friends are turning on each other, and a scant few are struggling against the horde.  Episode 1 was already a thrill to the senses, how will this episode fare?     

Now that the whole gang's together, (or not, who knows?) the real fight begins.  With the introduction of fellow classmates Hirano (a self proclaimed gun nut) and Takagi (so tsundere, it's not like she even cares about the zombie apocalypse or anything!), as well as cool, calm and collected Saeko (my new waifu, hands off) and the fanservice machine known as Nurse Shizuka (srsly, boobs everywhere), they must fight their way out of school to find safety as well as their families.

The episode opens with a new pair of survivors, Hirano and Takagi, a mismatched pair if I've ever seen one.  Takagi immediately takes point, bringing Hirano along with her.  More safety in numbers, right?  That, or she's using him as insurance (read: bait) in case she gets into a bad situation.  Meanwhile our original pair on the rooftop finally come to their senses and break free from the group of corpses that followed them up.  Finding a new use for a firehose, Kumuro blasts the zombies out of the way, clearing a path they use to escape (I love the next scene, where we see an outside shot looking into the room Hirano and Takagi have barricaded themselves in, while water from the firehose on the rooftop comes down the windows.  Genius!).

  Soon Saeko and Nurse Shizuka make their way through the school until bumping into the others, where a sort of showdown happens with a couple of shamblers.  While Hirano finds a flicker of courage he never knew he had,  Takagi breaks down under the crushing realization that the world has changed forever.   

How hard will it be to survive now that their group has bloated to six people?  Not to mention the state of mind that one of them is currently in.  As zombie buffs are well aware, large groups of survivors tend to get caught in the worst situations, though the "Last Man on Earth"-type loner doesn't fare too well either.  A plan is formed to secure transportation away from the zombie infested halls of their school, in order to find their loved ones.  But after that...what?  Takagi has already shown her disdain for authority, and even Komuro seems to be flying by the seat of his pants.  At the end of the episode, it's revealed to our little group just how deep in the mud they really are:  knee deep and upside down!  Registered members can catch episode 2 of High School of the Dead NOW on the Anime Network Online Player!
