Episode Overview: High School of the Dead ep. 3 - Democracy Under the DeadPosted by Rai in Untagged |

It seems that the zombie outbreak at school is not just an isolated incident. News stations are reporting outbreaks in Japan, The United States, Moscow, Greece...a worldwide pandemic would be a better name for it. After a brief moment of contemplation over all the new info, our group is ready to break free form the school and find their loved ones, no matter the cost.
While the original plan was to secure a school transport bus to escape, their plans are quickly changed when they find a ragtag group of students, much like their own, cornered by some stairs. Showing that flair for combat that they all seem to posess, they handle the zombies beautifully, with not a single wasted movement. It's decided that they will all group up (oh great, and even BIGGER target!) and try to escape.

As seen in previous episodes, the zombies seem to only react to sound, though it is not explained why. The rest of their senses have apparently been shut down, and their only way to find fresh meat to devour is through hearing. Komuro bravely tests this theory (much to the bewilderment of Rei) by slowly inches his way through a hall crowded with the enemy. When the theory is proven as fact, the whole group begins to silently sneaking their way through the throng of zombies. But one small, uncalculated (and generally stupid) movement is all that's needed to alert the living dead of their precense...
Ridding themselves of the thought that these things were once friends and classmates, the group makes a mad dash for the school bus, mowing down bodies left and right (once again, with that visual flair that seems to pump you up at just the right time).
After a successful "exciting race through zombie horde" moment, they see yet another group of survivors far off in the distance, desparately trying to make it to the bus as well to join them in their escape. Do they wait? They are already sorrounded as it is, bringing more people would be a great risk. Reluctantly, and with the protests of Rei in his ear, Komuro decides to wait. A gruesome scene is then witnessed, where a teacher, Mr. Shido, decides the fate of a student who has fallen: only the strong survive. Once they've boarded, Shizuka puts the pedal to the metal, mows down about a billion zombies, and breaks through the gates to freedom

Rei informs Komuro that Shido is bad news. After finding out that the group has no leader (they don't need one, Saeko said) he appoint shimself the leader by "majority vote". This is the last straw for Rei, and she jumps out of the bus, deciding to go at it alone rather than being stuck in the same space as Shido. What could've happened between them to get such a reaction from her? Komuro, being the man that he is, tries to stop her form leaving.
While they fight outside the bus, another bus comes barreling down the street, almost crashing into the group's bus, and narrowly missing Rai and Komuro. They live through the ordeal, but are now trapped in a tunnel by the flaming overturned bus. Both groups decide to meet at the Police Station at 7PM or if not then the same time the next day....
